Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get credit?

Ride the route as directed, record it using your favorite GPS device and ensure that device is connected to Strava. This can be done by directly using Strava on your phone or connecting a watch or bike computer to Strava. If you need help getting connected, contact challenge@swimba.org. Activities in Strava must be set to public or followers to receive credit.

Is direction of travel important?

Yes! You must complete the route in the direction indicated to get credit. Be sure to check the route details prior to starting the route.

Must I complete the entire loop?

Yes! To receive credit you must complete the entire loop as designed in a single activity.

Can I combine loops into one activity?

Yes! You can do more than one loop in the same activity and will receive credit for each loop completed. (Example: The Eastside and Around the Mountain routes can be combined – you can park at the Stack Rock lot and ride up Bogus Basin Rd, complete the ATM route, and then finish the Eastside route.)

Do I need to park in the location shown on the route?

No – you can start/stop your route anywhere along the route but you must ride the entire route in the correct direction. (Examples: This allows you to park at either Stack Rock Parking lot or either Polecat parking lot.)

Must I follow Ridge to Rivers rules?

Yes! You must follow all Ridge to Rivers rules regarding proper day and direction of travel. Hulls Gulch must be completed on an odd day to receive credit. All routes require the proper direction of travel and are designed to follow Ridge to Rivers rules.

How can I navigate while riding?

Download the GPX file for the route and use your favorite app. If you do not have a favorite app, try BikeGPX. (SWIMBA has no affiliation with BikeGPX.)

Is trail etiquette important?

Yes, of course! Practicing proper trail etiquette is always important. This is a challenge and not a race. Please be kind and respect other trail users.

What happens if it is muddy?

Don’t ride muddy trails! Wait until a dry day to complete your routes.

Can I ride with friends?

Yes! Please ride with friends and enjoy this challenge!
